Join the Rutgers Initiative for the Book as we switch out our printing paper and presses for animal parchment and quills in the English department’s first transcribathon! This event will be on Murray Hall’s first floor lounge.<\/p>\n

This event will take place on April 30th, beginning at 8:00am with a light breakfast served. We will transcribe the opening 1,000 lines of two famous medieval poems: Beowulf <\/i>and Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales<\/i>. The event will conclude at 7:00pm, at which point the Rutgers English Department will have their own loose-leaf hand-made copies of the poems.<\/p>\n

If you are interested in the history of the book, the Middle Ages, manuscripts, calligraphy, and pedagogy of teaching history, please consider joining us for this event. Visitors are encouraged to stop by for short periods of time and participate in the transcribing.<\/p>\n

We invite all of those interested in this event. You do not need any prior knowledge of the Middle Ages or calligraphy in order to participate in this event.
