The Biomedical Engineering Graduate Program at Rutgers University was initially established in 1965 and is not jointly operated between Rutgers University-New Brunswick and the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School of Rutgers Biomedical Health Sciences. The program offers Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Science, and Master of Engineering degrees as well as a certificate in Medical Device Design and Development. The graduate program includes over 70 faculty from Rutgers science and engineering departments, Robert Wood Johnson basic biomedical and engineering clinical science departments, other academic institutions in the area, and researchers from local industry.

As a major research university with a medical school on campus, Rutgers maintains a thriving and supportive post-doctoral community. Federally supported training programs and formal career development programming augment the outstanding and highly collaborative research environment.
