about the choirs
Note: you only need to audition once to be considered for any of the choirs. All members of the Rutgers choirs receive one credit per semester.
Kirkpatrick Choir

Location: Douglass, Shindell Choral Hall (Mortensen Hall)
The RU Kirkpatrick Choir is the most advanced choral ensemble at the University. The repertoire represents all areas of choral masterworks, sacred and secular, as well as both significant a cappella music and works with orchestra, including recent concerts at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall in New York City. In 2019 they were invited by the German government to perform at the Marktoberdorf Festival, where they won the prestigious Dolf Rebus award.
Glee Club
Tenors and Basses
Location: College Ave, McKinney Hall
The Rutgers University Glee Club is an ensemble of tenors and basses founded in 1872. Recent tours have included concerts in England, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and France with concerts at St. Peters at the Vatican, Notre Dame in Paris, and the Thomaskirche in Leipzig. The Glee Club has been chosen to perform at the 2021 national conference of the American Choral Directors Association in Dallas, Texas. They performed in March 2020 at the ACDA conference in Rochester, New York.
Voorhees Choir

The Rutgers University Voorhees Choir is an ensemble of sopranos and altos that champions text and music composed by women and historically excluded poets and composers. The choir continues a long tradition of representing Rutgers University — from its beginnings as the choir for the New Jersey College for Women in 1924 to its years as the official choir for Douglass Residential College. The Rutgers Voorhees Choir made its Carnegie Hall debut in April 2019 as part of the inaugural National Concerts performance series. They were also selected to perform at the 2024 ACDA Eastern Division Conference in Providence, RI and the 2020 ACDA Eastern Division Conference in Rochester, NY.
University Choir

The Rutgers University Choir is a large mixed ensemble that performs a wide variety of music from around the world, often interspersed with poetry and other interdisciplinary artistry. United in their love of communal singing, its members currently form the largest choir at Rutgers and represent dozens of areas of study across the university. In recognition of its vibrant sense of community, the University Choir was recognized with the Spirit of Rutgers Award in 2020.
