As an incoming medical student, these changes apply to you. Please review the information below and visit our\u00a0<a id=\"OWAc447a563-382f-5116-f76a-45e9d87fbc36\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"https:\/\/scarlethub.rutgers.edu\/obbba-rh\/\" href=\"https:\/\/scarlethub.rutgers.edu\/obbba-rh\/\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-outlook-id=\"c5ce05f7-eb8c-4f0c-92ed-549f653c0150\">OBBBA information page<\/a>\u00a0for the most current details.<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><b>What does this mean for you as an incoming medical student?<\/b><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(0, 0, 0)\">If you are enrolling on or after July 1, 2026:<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li data-ogsc=\"rgb(0, 0, 0)\">You will not be eligible for Graduate PLUS loans.<\/li>\n<li data-ogsc=\"rgb(0, 0, 0)\">You still have options to help cover your cost of attendance. Many medical students choose to use private education loans to supplement federal loans.<br \/>\nVisit our\u00a0<a id=\"OWAa57b6a47-689a-239b-acb0-801efe95b95a\" class=\"OWAAutoLink\" title=\"https:\/\/scarlethub.rutgers.edu\/financial-services\/types-of-aid\/loans\/private-loans\/\" href=\"https:\/\/scarlethub.rutgers.edu\/financial-services\/types-of-aid\/loans\/private-loans\/\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-outlook-id=\"2a661f87-6874-496e-953d-d80767f18f10\">private loans information page<\/a>\u00a0to learn what to consider, questions to ask lenders, and how to apply.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><b>What does this mean for your first year?<\/b><\/div>\n<div class=\"elementToProof\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Federal loans are available to you under the new limits established by the OBBBA. For your first year of medical school, you may borrow up to $50,000 in Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans. If your total cost of attendance is higher than this amount, you may need to use private loans or other personal resources to cover the remaining expenses, such as tuition, fees, housing, and living costs.
