Course Title: Introduction to Medical Acting<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

Course Description:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

Are you passionate about healthcare and interested in exploring the world of medical acting? This engaging 3-credit course, developed in collaboration with the Mason Gross School of Arts and Rutgers Health schools, is perfect for undergraduate and graduate students eager to learn theater techniques used to work as Standardized Patients in various healthcare education programs. No previous acting experience is necessary!<\/p>\r\n

Throughout the course, you\u2019ll have the unique opportunity to use theater training to portray patients in realistic scenarios that simulate healthcare provider\/patient interactions. By stepping into the role of a patient, you\u2019ll help future healthcare professionals, including those in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and allied health professions, hone their skills and improve their empathy and communication, guided by the Empathy and Clarity rating scale.<\/p>\r\n

Learning Goals:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

The course is divided into three exciting components:<\/p>\r\n

  1. Improvisation Process:<\/strong>\u00a0Engage in fun theater games to boost your spontaneity and develop improvisational skills.<\/li>\r\n
  2. Actor\/Educator Standardized Patient Training:<\/strong>\u00a0Learn the ins and outs of being a Standardized Patient, from character development to scenario execution.<\/li>\r\n
  3. Practical Preparation Rehearsal:<\/strong>\u00a0Participate in simulated healthcare provider\/patient interactions, refining your acting skills and contributing to the education of future healthcare providers.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n
