
Fatma Elcan received her B.A. and M.A. degrees in Turkish Language and Literature from Boğaziçi University. She completed her M.A. in 2025 with the thesis 06 Mil Yz A 6163/1 Terceme-i Tıbb-ı Cedîd-i Efrencî (1a–99b): Analysis and Text, which consists of a transcription and analysis of an Ottoman manuscript on new medicine. Her research interests include recipes for food and medicine in the Ottoman geography, as well as the representation of food and illness in Ottoman prose stories. She has previously worked as a research assistant in projects such as TÜBİTAK and the BâkîProject. She has a publication in Keshif journal titled “A Mixture of Sugar and Tail Fat: 17th-Century Recipes for Pastry and Medicine.” She intends to pursue her doctoral studies on the relationship between illness and food in early modern Ottoman prose stories.
