Salamanca 2024

SalamancaSalamanca, nestled in the northeastern part of Spain, serves as the capital of the province of Salamanca in the Castilla y León region. This historic city is home to approximately 150,000 residents. The University of Salamanca, founded in the 13th century, stands as the oldest university in Spain and one of the oldest in all of Europe, currently catering to a student body of over 28,000 individuals. With a rich legacy of providing Spanish courses for learners, the University introduced Spanish language and cultural programs into its curriculum as early as 1929. Today, this initiative has evolved into one of the most esteemed programs of its kind, welcoming an annual enrollment of more than 7,200 students hailing from over 120 different countries.

The academic program will be conducted through Cursos Internacionales from the Universidad de Salamanca, which offers a comprehensive summer program.

This program includes the following classes:

  • SPANISH LANGUAGE – LENGUA ESPAÑOLA This course aims to improve students’ fluency
    in Spanish, paying special attention to grammar and vocabulary. Following a communicative and functional approach, the course offers students a wide range of tasks and activities which make them get familiar with real communicative contexts.
  • CONVERSATION AND COMPOSITION – CONVERSACIÓN Y REDACCIÓN Along this course, students work on their writing and speaking skills through the analysis and production of
    different written and oral texts.
  • CONTEMPORARY SPANISH HISTORY – HISTORIA DE LA ESPAÑA CONTEMPORÁNEA In this course, students analyze the most relevant events and figures from the 20th century and understand their repercussions on modern Spain.
  • SPANISH FOR BUSINESS – ESPAÑOL DE LOS NEGOCIOS This course is designed for students who need to go deep into Spanish more specifically, focusing on the variety of language used for business. Special emphasis on specific vocabulary regarding this area and on the main language skills within this domain.
  • BUILD YOUR VOCABULARY (inicial) – AMPLIACIÓN DE LÉXICO This course is only offered
    at an elementary level. It provides students with basic vocabulary they may need in order to solve basic daily-life tasks and problems using the Spanish language.
  • ORAL SKILLS PRACTICE – PRÁCTICAS DE DESTREZAS ORALES During this course, students will develop their listening and speaking skills through guided activities which reproduce a
    variety of real communicative contexts.
  • SPANISH CULTURE – CULTURA ESPAÑOLA The objective of this course is to help the student understand the different aspects of the Spanish culture. The program includes not only information about geographic, political, historic aspects, but also the customs, behavior, and values which form a part of the Spanish character.
  • CONTEMPORARY SPANISH LITERATURE – LITERATURA CONTEMPORÁNEA EN ESPAÑOL The course offers an outline of the Spanish and Latin American literature written along the 20th century. Following a chronological order, it focuses on the main literary trends and on the development of literary genres by the most important authors of this period.
  • COMMUNICATIVE ACTIVITIES (inicial) – ACTIVIDADES PARA LA COMUNICACIÓN This course is only offered at an elementary level (A1 and A2). Students are provided with practical activities as if they were in daily-life contexts. Thanks to these activities, they can actively develop the four basic skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
  • SPANISH ART –ARTE ESPAÑOL With this course, students learn the main periods and trends of the Spanish art through History. During the course, students analyze the most important art works (paintings, sculptures and architecture) of the Spanish Heritage.
  • WRITTEN SKILLS PRACTICE – PRÁCTICAS DE DESTREZAS ESCRITAS With this class, students will learn to use their writing skills as a communicative tool. They will improve their writing through the reading comprehension and the production of different texts.
  • LANGUAGE LABORATORY (inicial) – LABORATORIO DE IDIOMAS This course is offered just at elementary levels (A1 and A2). The main purpose is to strengthen students’ oral understanding and production, as well as their pronunciation and intonation, working on the language from a practical, communicative approach.
  • Cursos Internacionales at the Universidad de Salamanca also offers opportunities for internships within the Technological Park, primarily with technology companies.
