A stressful workout running around Frankfurt airport resulted in a day lost in Krakow, but a day gained in this old, river-city of Frankfurt, Germany. Though jet-lagged, the seven of us ventured off to see downtown for a few hours. A brief stop at Einstein Kaffee to fuel up put us all in good spirits. First, we walked through Frankfurt am Main, with beautiful streets and curious architecture. Walking through the streets of downtown, I gathered a sense of the scope of this city’s history, from the former Gothic cloth storage buildings (now a German folk art museum) to the Cathedral of St. Bartholomew, one of the few buildings undamaged by bombings by the Allied powers in World War II. Frankfurt is very walkable, with wide sidewalks, a pedestrian bridge (Eiserner Steg), and a beautiful walkway along the river. There is much to take in and explore, so it was great to get that time to walk the city.
