Consultations
If you’re new to training grants, NIH has a podcast series that includes a 2-part overview of training grants (February 2024) – available on Apple podcasts:

We provide consultations for various types of training grants including T32, TL1, R25 (research education), K12
The earlier in the process you contact us, the more we can provide.
Meeting with you can help us provide relevant suggestions, recommendations, and links to resources that can help you strategize and prepare a compelling and high-quality proposal.
Please prepare well in advance (at least 6 months – one year in advance is preferred.). Training grants are programs. They differ from research grants – the preparation of training grants requires significant planning, including data collection and compilation for the data training tables and background research.
(Post award administration of training grants is different from research grants too and we provide consultations for that as well.)
To make the most of your personalized consultation, please have the following information before we meet with you:
1) The PA-##-###, RFA-XX-##-### or PAR-##-### for the training grant.
2) The # of training slots contemplated.
3) The focus area for research training and level of training (predoc, postdoc, resident or combination of these levels per the PA/PAR announcement).
4) Your preliminary list of participating faculty for the grant.
5) As with an R01, think about your desired list of “Specific Aims” for training that can differentiate the proposal from others already here or funded by the sponsor.
Even if you don’t have all these or don’t need a full consultation, please do not hesitate to reach out to us for any question you might have at https://sites.rutgers.edu/tgs-office/contact
