Research Opportunities

Postdoc

Self-motivated postdoc candidates are encouraged to reach out for possible opportunities. Candidate must be passionate about contributing to cutting-edge projects in Proteomics, Medicinal Chemistry, Cell Biology. Enabled by internal and external resources, postdoc members are highly encouraged to develop their independent projects and grants.

Graduate Student

Current graduate students are encouraged to reach out to Tom for rotation opportunities in mass spectrometry, chemical synthesis, biochemistry, PTM biology, and drug discovery.

Undergraduate Student

Curious undergraduates are encouraged to reach out to Tom for learning and research opportunities, even if you are not sure. The lab is interdisciplinary enough to provide science exposure of your interest, regardless of your prior experience. Undergraduate researchers are expected to team with an existing lab scientists (e.g. postdoc or PhD student) and to potentially publish co-authored papers.

Visiting Scholars/Student

Limited positions for Visiting Scholars are available in the lab to advance academic communications and partnerships between institutions/countries. At the individual level, the visit is expected to must benefit and broaden the scholar’s research skills, and secondarily to benefit the scholar’s academic career development. Scholars are typically self-sufficient and may be funded by a government, industry, institution, fellowship, or other mechanisms. A minimum visit of 6 months is preferred, and scholars will be equally supported for conducting research and publishing papers.

2026 Summer Intern

A funded intern by Center for Biomedical Informatics & Health Artificial Intelligence (BMIHAI) is open to applications. This opportunity is open to current Rutgers BS and MS students who are interested in Bioinformatics and Proteomics Data Science. Internship duration is June 1 – July 31, 2026. The intern will receive $3000 compensation for salary from the program, an additional $1000 fund is available to support the summer research.

The lab is spacious (~1900 sqft) within EMSOP building complex, consists of one chemistry lab (William Leving Hall, Room 323 with 3 chemical hoods), two biochemistry labs (Cullman Laboratory for Cancer Research, Rooms 253-257 with 2 Biosafety Cabinets), and a proteomics instrument room.
