Our Research Mission
Mental health conditions (MHCs) affect one in eight people globally, often emerging between ages 17-30 during higher education years. In postsecondary settings, 6-20% of students experience MHCs, facing nearly double the dropout risk and unique challenges such as academic pressure, social isolation, and lack of knowledge about academic accommodation. This project aims to improve educational and work outcomes for postsecondary students with MHCs, promoting successful transitions to adulthood for those experiencing mental health symptoms and conditions during their studies.
As of July 2022, postsecondary students comprised 4.87% of the U.S. population, suggesting this project could impact approximately 1.22% of the U.S. general population. By addressing these issues, the project seeks to promote completion of postsecondary educational goals among individuals with MHCs and improve their long-term employment outcomes.
