{"id":1016,"date":"2026-04-07T12:53:49","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T12:53:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.rutgers.edu\/water-resources-program\/?page_id=1016"},"modified":"2026-04-15T15:18:32","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T15:18:32","slug":"black-river","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.rutgers.edu\/water-resources-program\/projects-and-programs\/black-river\/","title":{"rendered":"The Black River Watershed Restoration and Protection Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><em><strong>Project Funding Source:<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>Raritan Highlands Compact with support from the Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions (ANJEC) and individual municipalities<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The Black River Watershed is located in Morris County, New Jersey and contains portions of Washington Township, Chester Township, Chester Borough, Roxbury, Randolph and Mine Hill. The Black River Wildlife Management Area in Chester Township is a significant ecological and recreational resource that occurs within this watershed. A significant portion of the land area is noted as Environmentally Sensitive in the New Jersey State Plan, and an even greater portion of the watershed is located within the Highlands Preservation Area.<\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">The Water Resources Program has undertaken the task of performing water quality testing, land surveillance, and geographic information systems (GIS) analysis to provide stakeholders within the Black River Watershed with a Watershed Restoration and Protection Plan to ensure the quality of the water resources within the watershed for the future.
