Mr. Right
By Mallika Verghese
You swept me off my feet at a fucking Brower party
Because I knew the dance steps to September by Earth, Wind and Fire.
You said you admired my will power to remain sober
Because of a promise I made to my best friend.
You took my hand when we were leaving
Because you wanted to kiss it, and promised we’d meet again.
You looked at the crown-shaped ring on my finger
Because you loved the way it gave me confidence.
You texted me every night
Because you wanted to get into my pants.
You said you’d show me the world
Because I was different than the thirty+ other women.
You did all this,
Because you’re an asshole.
