Mackenzie Kean

yesterday, the screen was a container—

a square of my world, of my everyday,

so many squares of the self—

all in one moment, with pixels and light,

I saw you, I saw them, I saw me.

four walls around me made it clear

I was on my own, pressed into

the folds of my loneliness—

my only company: a cup of tea,

the way it consoled me without

a hand or a mouth or an ear.

it sat there inside of itself looking

for something to call a sun or a moon

or a cloud—finding only my face,

your face, their faces.

look up! look up! it said.

there are so many things to open for.

look up into the sky of the face.

my face. your face. our faces.
