Two Poems
Francesca Dodaro
Ego
There’s a side of the brain
That takes you up higher than imagined.
It makes you see the light in the
Darkest corners.
As you sit alone,
And the mask comes off,
You breathe in a breath of fresh air.
The rainbow arching over the frontal lobe.
Slowly the ego comes out,
But only to family,
Maybe close friends.
Only then can you be yourself.
Persona
There’s a road at the end of my personality,
It will take you far beyond my mask.
Real emotions shining through the cracks
With a broken smile at the forefront.
Crack! Pop!
There goes another image of myself,
I’ve built up.
Years of work amount to nothing.
People can finally see my pure self,
Hot smoldering anger,
A gentle rain of melancholy,
But who could withstand my bittersweet love?
