i think i’ll shave my head
Ellie DeMan
i’ve got to do something to rough up my world.
i think i’ll shave my head.
maybe everything thing wrong and unholy
will fall away with each dead hair.
i think i’ll shave my head
for the little one i once was
will fall away with each dead hair
and smile as we’re reunited at last.
for the little one i once was,
i cut my end
and smile as we’re reunited at last.
i’ll gift him anything he asks of me.
i cut my end
and buy a thousand things!
i’ll gift him anything he asks of me!
i love such a little monster
i think i’ll shave my head
and buy a thousand things
and love a small monster
and smile as we’re reunited at last
Ellie DeMan hopes to graduate Rutgers in spring 2026 with a BFA in acting. They are from upstate NY and love theatre, archery, and writing. Although their passion is theatre, they developed their love for writing when the theatre wasn’t available during the 2020 lockdowns and have been writing for fun ever since.
This poem was written in a creative writing course taught by Joanna Fuhrman, who selected the piece for inclusion in WHR.
