Sarah Lee

I wanted to touch the sky once

So you lifted me up

As high as you could

My tiny hands

Grasped the air

I felt like a God

Birthed of myth not flesh

On your shoulders

The Sun bowed to me

The Moon sang for me

And the Stars danced between my fingers

Today

I wanted to touch the sky again

But I have no one to hold me now

Sarah Lee is a Class of 2027 SAS student who plans to declare her major in Criminal Justice. She writes, “Since childhood, I’ve always enjoyed writing stories, so I took creative writing as most classes use writing primarily for papers rather than exploration. Besides writing, I also like to listen to music, draw, and ruin my sleep schedule by taking long naps.”

Sarah wrote this poem in a course taught by Richard Murray, who selected the piece for inclusion in WHR.
