Stars
Juliana Guerino
The dusk comes with a promise of starlight
Among the night sky–stars
As if God had sprinkled them sugar-sweet
on a perfect black birthday cake.
I tilt my head, gaze upward, eyes more open than they can be in the fullness of day.
Not looking at one star, I see them all at once.
The milky speckles dance along the sky in various patterns, tug at the corners of my lips.
It’s hard to shove aside my worries, but eventually I realize nothing from my life can touch me.
Not a single thing can harm me.
