Alan Lightman
By Spencer Shore
He sits in a cramped projectionist’s room,
Not watching Some Like It Hot on the screen down below,
But thinking about the projector’s graphite rods– striking,
Sparking, separating. The harsh white flame he turns away from
Fills the space where they once met.
The sleepy projectionist rises from his chair,
Loads the second reel of film,
And returns to his nap.
The film stops spinning and Alan walks into the Malco Theater
parking lot, stretches his arms overhead
And with a big, loud yawn, walks towards his room,
Where his science experiments and stories await.
