But You Know Better<\/h3>\n

<\/h4>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/h4>\n

You will be in your car,<\/p>\n

at seventy-five miles per hour.<\/p>\n

The quick whoosh sound will echo as cars pass by,<\/p>\n

and you\u2019ll think,<\/p>\n

\u201cCross that double yellow line<\/p>\n

towards the oncoming traffic.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Or<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You will be standing at the edge of a cliff,<\/p>\n

looking down at the miles of jagged rocks<\/p>\n

the sea loves to pound against,<\/p>\n

and you\u2019ll think,<\/p>\n

\u201cJust jump.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Or<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You will be waiting for the train,<\/p>\n

the loud booming of the whistle<\/p>\n

approaching as the ground trembles,<\/p>\n

and you\u2019ll think,<\/p>\n

\u201cClimb down onto the tracks, quick.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Or<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You will be gazing into the bright, red fire,<\/p>\n

the warm flames so inviting,<\/p>\n

and you\u2019ll think,<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me touch it.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Or<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You will be cutting apples,<\/p>\n

slicing the chunks down to smaller pieces,<\/p>\n

when your glance locks on a finger,<\/p>\n

and you\u2019ll think,<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me chop this too.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The call of the void wants you,<\/p>\n

like a siren\u2019s song wants a sailor.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But you<\/p>\n

keep driving in your lane.<\/p>\n

Step back from the ridged edge.<\/p>\n

Wait to board the train.<\/p>\n

Watch the fire.<\/p>\n

Eat your apples.<\/p>\n

\n

 <\/p>\n

Two Drunk Girls In A Bathroom<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

She stumbled into the bathroom.<\/p>\n

Her raven hair,<\/p>\n

Once tightly curled,<\/p>\n

Now ran wild down her back.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

She wore mascara–<\/p>\n

The one that said \u201cwaterproof\u201d<\/p>\n

But streamed down her cheeks.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Her brown eyes took in her reflection,<\/p>\n

which appeared exactly how she felt.<\/p>\n

In the mirror she caught a movement,<\/p>\n

But it could just have been the drinks she’d downed.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A soft, manicured hand rested on her back.<\/p>\n

It was a girl–<\/p>\n

light brown hair<\/p>\n

rolled down her shoulders,<\/p>\n

light glowed behind her,<\/p>\n

An absolute angel\u2026<\/p>\n

But it could just have been the drugs she’d done.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The girl pulled out some toilet paper from her pocket,<\/p>\n

Her \u201cfrat party bathroom\u201d stash,<\/p>\n

And helped wipe off the black, Nile streaks.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t let no boy cause you those tears.\u201d<\/p>\n

The raven girl cracked a smile<\/p>\n

And asked how the angel had guessed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve all been here.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Running her fingers through raven girl\u2019s locks,<\/p>\n

the brown-haired one spoke as if she was a god.<\/p>\n

No compliments ever sounded so sweet,<\/p>\n

So true.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

They were the commandments which girls remind each other of<\/p>\n

In tiny, dirty bathrooms.<\/p>\n

\n

 <\/p>\n
