water rains down from the sky,<\/p>\n
smears makeup across my face in light streaks<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
i think of my life and all the days that go by<\/p>\n
without a doubt, i wish i was somebody else<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
sometimes<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
i stare at myself and pick out what i would change<\/p>\n
but i know<\/p>\n
i will remain the same<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
as i stare at the glass<\/p>\n
there\u2019s so much truth i could tell<\/p>\n
nobody likes me<\/p>\n
but i hide it well<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
i don\u2019t think mirrors are for me but i stare anyway<\/p>\n
i don\u2019t think this is for me but i write anyway<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
clouds in the sky remind me of my own mind<\/p>\n
freckled and spaced out<\/p>\n
like i\u2019m fresh out of thoughts<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
but i run to find a river in the sky<\/p>\n
and think what it would cost<\/p>\n
to rent a soul for the day<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
time\u2019s passing by<\/p>\n
and i think of my life in cool colors<\/p>\n
flashing lights<\/p>\n
and restless nights<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
i think of the river and the windows<\/p>\n
that i should\u2019ve thrown my soul through<\/p>\n
i search for the river<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
i think i might find it<\/p>\n
if i open my eyes wide enough<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
or maybe i don\u2019t need the river<\/p>\n
maybe i\u2019m doing just fine<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
i shouldn\u2019t go searching for sunlight<\/p>\n
when it\u2019s right here in my hands<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
i look out of the window<\/p>\n
and i\u2019m happy that this river has someone to love them<\/p>\n
but i can\u2019t stop thinking<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
i\u2019m still searching for the river i had long ago.<\/p>\n

Uchenna Agbu<\/strong> is a Theatre Arts major (Class of 2024), with minors in Creative Writing and Human Resource Management, from Burlington, New Jersey. At Rutgers, she serves as Membership Chair for the Scarlet NAACP and Director of Alumni Relations for The Livingston Theatre Company. She is a member of Douglass Residential College and is currently completing an internship at Rutgers Center for Women and Work.
