II. Ash<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
I drop paper in<\/p>\n
the fire, watch it burn to<\/p>\n
ash that floats to the<\/p>\n
sky where you are, wondering<\/p>\n
if tears, too, can burn to ash.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
III. Days between<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Dad counted the days<\/p>\n
between his parents\u2019 deaths. In<\/p>\n
the cold air, alone,<\/p>\n
Dad sighs \u2013 and says this is the<\/p>\n
number of days since Dad died.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
IV. Funeral in white<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Today I saw a<\/p>\n
funeral with men in white.<\/p>\n
Wearing my black dress,<\/p>\n
I bow three times, fearing the<\/p>\n
day I forget how to grieve.<\/p>\n
