{"id":3284,"date":"2022-10-20T22:33:43","date_gmt":"2022-10-20T22:33:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.rutgers.edu\/writers-house-review\/?page_id=3284"},"modified":"2022-10-25T19:38:44","modified_gmt":"2022-10-25T19:38:44","slug":"im-dying-let-me-out","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.rutgers.edu\/writers-house-review\/vol-3-winter-2022-23\/im-dying-let-me-out\/","title":{"rendered":"Two Poems"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr \/>\n<h4><em>Isabella Yagid<\/em><\/h4>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>I&#8217;m Dying Let Me Out<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>My housemate wants to kill me<br \/>\nAnd I don&#8217;t know how to survive<br \/>\nWhen the person who wants you dead<br \/>\nIs just on the other side<br \/>\nOf a wall<br \/>\n6 inches thick.<br \/>\nPushed aside by the raging tide<br \/>\nThat is HER.<br \/>\nA focal point in the face of time itself<br \/>\nShe sits in the loveseat and<br \/>\nTells me how I make her feel<br \/>\nLike she\u2019s dying<br \/>\nWhich is strange<br \/>\ncoming from the girl with the clearest skin in the friend group.<br \/>\nShe says she wants peace<br \/>\nBut peace is hard to come by<br \/>\nFrom inside this polyurethane bag<br \/>\nThat I&#8217;m stuck inside of<br \/>\nConstantly toppling over as she carries me to the fridge<br \/>\nalong with her milk and her eggs<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Foureightnine<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>My boss\u2019 ego is so big it could protect him from the rain, but it couldn\u2019t hold his weight in gold.<\/p>\n<p>My boyfriend wants to love me but his love can\u2019t fill the holes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Fuck Shakespeare and Virgina Woolf fat load they do me now<\/p>\n<p>When my group mate leads the coding project like some<\/p>\n<p>holier-than-thou<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The things that used to make me feel that lightness in my chest<\/p>\n<p>now weigh me down so that my past I always will regret<\/p>\n<p>the way I let you do those things to me but did I have a choice<\/p>\n<p>If the beating of my heart was louder than my voice?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Isabella Yagid<\/strong> is expected to graduate in May 2023 and lives in Maplewood, New Jersey. She writes, &#8220;I still think about every stray dog and cat I\u2019ve ever seen. They run through my mind all day.
