If I eat this apple, then<br \/>\nI shit a seed which grows<br \/>\na tree is cut down to make<br \/>\npaper and floorboards are burnt to<br \/>\nash will poison at least six<br \/>\nbabies are born with extra<br \/>\nlimbs are then the main source of<br \/>\nnutrients are depleted from the<br \/>\nsoil is now sand and nothing can<br \/>\ngrow ing old is acid<br \/>\nrain is oil is thick is<br \/>\nwater now hot and<br \/>\nboiling rocks bubble in<br \/>\nmy stomach is lined with<br \/>\nconcrete flakes chip off<br \/>\nbuildings fall on our<br \/>\nhouses turn to snow and memories, just piles of<br \/>\ncotton candy is the only thing<br \/>\nyou\u2019ll miss, you say. I disagree; there<br \/>\nis so much to destroy, which means there<br \/>\nis even more to maintain. You laugh because<br \/>\nI make myself sweat over these things. You say<br \/>\nIt\u2019s ok to die during winter because the world needs warm.<br \/>\nBut if you die, then my Earth dies twice. I say<br \/>\nit\u2019s okay to die during winter as long as it\u2019s June.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>the math behind accidents<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>They linger<br \/>\nlike acousmatic smells or phantom italics on words that are<br \/>\nbold. Your aunt, mob wife cadence like hair rollers and<br \/>\nwallpaper. Her husband, a jowl that slops like a kind dog.<br \/>\nThe uncle you stole pills from. The cousin who liked burning<br \/>\nspoons. They hang around hallways like old bars. They make<br \/>\nyour feet smell and your clothes wrinkled, move you around in<br \/>\nyour sleep and put thoughts in your head about blood and flesh.<br \/>\nDreams of dead people are voicemails. They visit in tidal handshakes,<br \/>\nalways facing away. They are the corners of bedrooms<br \/>\nthe faces in folded clothes they write the math behind<br \/>\naccidents they are the voice in the back of your head<br \/>\ncalling your own name they are the air conditioning the hum<br \/>\nof the fridge the bathroom fan the midnight motorcycle<\/p>\n<p>when I\u2019m not trying, I see ghost round-abouts<br \/>\nlike light leaks, tacit glitches into high dimensions<br \/>\nand traffic jams. Lucent walkers circling towards a finite<br \/>\nheaven, only for an instant, before they all turn<br \/>\ntheir heads and disappear. In bed, I close my eyes<br \/>\nand see a great flash of light whip over my storm doors,<br \/>\nknowing that a ghost is going where it needs to be.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Brandon Lupetti<\/strong> writes, &#8220;I am currently in my Junior year, and I&#8217;m from Hackensack, NJ.
