{"id":3365,"date":"2022-10-31T20:54:31","date_gmt":"2022-10-31T20:54:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.rutgers.edu\/writers-house-review\/?page_id=3365"},"modified":"2022-11-03T17:34:41","modified_gmt":"2022-11-03T17:34:41","slug":"three-poems-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.rutgers.edu\/writers-house-review\/vol-3-winter-2022-23\/three-poems-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Three Poems"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr \/>\n<h4><em>Lauren Bromberg<\/em><\/h4>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Heidi<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You remind me of Heidi,<\/p>\n<p>Someone I used to know.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019d do ballet in her bedroom<\/p>\n<p>And write love songs just for fun.<\/p>\n<p>I couldn\u2019t tell you why or when<\/p>\n<p>She might have stopped.<\/p>\n<p>I know that she loved it,<\/p>\n<p>But I guess that she forgot.<\/p>\n<p>And she owned the art she made<\/p>\n<p>Like she owned her yellow crocs.<\/p>\n<p>But now when I see her<\/p>\n<p>She looks kind of lost.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I can tell you\u2019re just like her<\/p>\n<p>Because you also wear yellow shoes<\/p>\n<p>And your sadness is stuck to you like a tattoo.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>My Friend Sam<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll play with you tomorrow, Sam!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Sam\u2019s tomorrow never came.<\/p>\n<p>And now I\u2019m playing tag alone,<\/p>\n<p>which was Sam\u2019s favorite game.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sam could never catch me.<\/p>\n<p>I would always run too fast.<\/p>\n<p>Now I wish I\u2019d given him a chance to,<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s too late because he\u2019s passed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I think about how cruel God is<\/p>\n<p>To take someone only seven.<\/p>\n<p>I really hope God reminds Sam<\/p>\n<p>To come play with me from up in Heaven.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I didn\u2019t realize how temporary life is,<\/p>\n<p>I didn\u2019t realize it could end.<\/p>\n<p>If I had realized that earlier,<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d have said bye to my best friend.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ode To Spring<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The girl in the sundress,<\/p>\n<p>Napping in verdant grass,<\/p>\n<p>Her cheeks warm like a hug.<\/p>\n<p>Up above,<\/p>\n<p>Pink candy trees,<\/p>\n<p>Clouds of whipped cream,<\/p>\n<p>The backyard pond, semi-frozen, a slurpee.<\/p>\n<p>The soil looks like fudge<\/p>\n<p>Where gummy worms reside.<\/p>\n<p>Garden pinwheels spin like ballerinas for a moment<\/p>\n<p>Until the breeze becomes as soft as a whisper.<\/p>\n<p>In this season of flutters,<\/p>\n<p>A fearful fledgling takes her first flight.<\/p>\n<p>The bees sprinkle pollen<\/p>\n<p>Like pixie dust.<\/p>\n<p>And flowers of every pigment on the painter\u2019s palette<\/p>\n<p>Grow like children.<\/p>\n<p>The girl in the sundress suddenly awakens.<\/p>\n<p>Her nose twitches like a rabbit\u2019s tail.<\/p>\n<p><em>Achoo!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Lauren Bromberg<\/strong> (Class of 2024) is majoring in Journalism and Media Studies with a double minor in Political Science and Creative Writing. She is from Rockaway, New Jersey.
