{"id":3442,"date":"2022-11-10T21:07:07","date_gmt":"2022-11-10T21:07:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.rutgers.edu\/writers-house-review\/?page_id=3442"},"modified":"2022-11-10T21:07:07","modified_gmt":"2022-11-10T21:07:07","slug":"two-poems-9","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.rutgers.edu\/writers-house-review\/vol-3-winter-2022-23\/two-poems-9\/","title":{"rendered":"Two Poems"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr \/>\n<h4><em>Francesca Dodaro<\/em><\/h4>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ego<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a side of the brain<br \/>\nThat takes you up higher than imagined.<br \/>\nIt makes you see the light in the<br \/>\nDarkest corners.<\/p>\n<p>As you sit alone,<br \/>\nAnd the mask comes off,<br \/>\nYou breathe in a breath of fresh air.<br \/>\nThe rainbow arching over the frontal lobe.<\/p>\n<p>Slowly the ego comes out,<br \/>\nBut only to family,<br \/>\nMaybe close friends.<br \/>\nOnly then can you be yourself.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Persona<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a road at the end of my personality,<br \/>\nIt will take you far beyond my mask.<br \/>\nReal emotions shining through the cracks<br \/>\nWith a broken smile at the forefront.<\/p>\n<p><em>Crack! Pop!<\/em><br \/>\nThere goes another image of myself,<br \/>\nI\u2019ve built up.<br \/>\nYears of work amount to nothing.<\/p>\n<p>People can finally see my pure self,<br \/>\nHot smoldering anger,<br \/>\nA gentle rain of melancholy,<br \/>\nBut who could withstand my bittersweet love?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Francesca Dodaro<\/strong> is in the class of 2024 double majoring in English and finance. Aside from going on adventures, she is fond of food blogging.
