 <\/p>\n

You never realize how fragile glass is until it shatters.<\/span><\/p>\n

A glass cup thrown at the kitchen floor in anger,<\/span><\/p>\n

Or a vase carelessly knocked over in the midst of a heated argument.<\/span><\/p>\n

We always thought glass was stronger,<\/span><\/p>\n

And could withstand the emotional damage we inflicted upon another,<\/span><\/p>\n

But the cracks were always there,<\/span><\/p>\n

We just never noticed how<\/span><\/p>\n

They were getting wider with every passing day.<\/span><\/p>\n

Maybe we should\u2019ve paid closer attention.<\/span><\/p>\n

Half of the broken shards we would try to gather with our bare hands,<\/span><\/p>\n

Quickly trying to piece the puzzle back together,<\/span><\/p>\n

Reminiscing over the fragmented memories that brought us together,<\/span><\/p>\n

But our hands would bleed and blister in the process,<\/span><\/p>\n

And make us wonder why we even tried to fix things in the first place.<\/span><\/p>\n

Maybe we should\u2019ve worn a glove.<\/span><\/p>\n

The other half of the shards were swept under the rug,<\/span><\/p>\n

Waiting to come to light when we least expected,<\/span><\/p>\n

When our feet were bare and vulnerable,<\/span><\/p>\n

The shards slashing open old wounds and leaving new scars.<\/span><\/p>\n

Maybe we should switch to plastic,<\/span><\/p>\n

And only address each other with fake greetings and chit-chat like strangers do.<\/span><\/p>\n

At least it won\u2019t hurt as much when things inevitably fall apart and<\/span><\/p>\n

shatter.<\/span><\/p>\n
