 <\/p>\n

There are oranges in<\/span><\/p>\n

a dish on the counter.<\/span><\/p>\n

They sit, perfect and round,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

until you push your thumb<\/span><\/p>\n

through the rind.<\/span><\/p>\n

Juice sprays everywhere.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There are oranges in<\/span><\/p>\n

a dish on the counter,<\/span><\/p>\n

and I know that doesn\u2019t mean<\/span><\/p>\n

anything to you.<\/span><\/p>\n

Not the way it does to me,<\/span><\/p>\n

at least.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There are oranges in<\/span><\/p>\n

a drawer of the fridge.<\/span><\/p>\n

You moved them when<\/span><\/p>\n

they started to bruise.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I take a segment and<\/span><\/p>\n

wince at the taste.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There are oranges in<\/span><\/p>\n

a drawer of the fridge,<\/span><\/p>\n

and I worry they\u2019re<\/span><\/p>\n

making me sick.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I eat them anyway and<\/span><\/p>\n

gag at the feel on my tongue.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There are oranges in\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

a box in the pantry.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Foil wrapped and made<\/span><\/p>\n

of chocolate, they\u2019re not<\/span><\/p>\n

the same. My hands are<\/span><\/p>\n

still left sticky.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There are oranges in<\/span><\/p>\n

a box in the pantry.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She gave them to me<\/span><\/p>\n

as a gift. \u201cI know\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

how you love.\u201d She wasn\u2019t\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

talking about oranges.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There are oranges in<\/span><\/p>\n

the palms of our hands.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There is pith under my\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

nails, juice and chocolate<\/span><\/p>\n

staining my fingers.<\/span><\/p>\n

She smiles and it doesn\u2019t matter.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jaiden Radoczy<\/strong> double majored in women\u2019s studies and comparative literature at Rutgers. She\u2019s from East Brunswick, NJ, and was a member of Douglass Residential College. She loves reading and writing, and hopes to continue her studies after undergrad to become a librarian.<\/span><\/p>\n
