Winner of the 2019 Rutgers University Winter Showcase Award for Playwriting\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Characters:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Narrator<\/strong>: Destiny and her mother are seated in front of the car with the windows rolled down and the radio turned up to the max. It\u2019s been a long day of mother-daughter bonding and they\u2019re ready to head back home. Suddenly, the car goes silent.<\/p>\n Mother<\/strong>: (Sings) My milkshake brings all the girls to the- hey! Why did the music stop?!<\/p>\n Destiny<\/strong>: I think the radio is busted! Right when it was getting to the good part.<\/p>\n Mother<\/strong>: Great! Well we still have time to spend. There\u2019s a mechanic named Billy, not far from here. I\u2019m sure he can fix it for us fast.<\/p>\n Destiny<\/strong>: I hate going to the gas station. How is it that the gas smells better than the people there?<\/p>\n Mother<\/strong>: Lower your voice sweetie. The windows are still rolled down and we\u2019re almost there.<\/p>\n Narrator<\/strong>: They arrive at Billy\u2019s gas station and move into one of the empty spots in the lot. Billy who is currently working on another broken car stops once he notices the two and approaches their car.<\/p>\n Billy<\/strong>: It\u2019s been a while Madame. It\u2019s good to see you.<\/p>\n Mother<\/strong>: I\u2019m sure what you really mean is that it\u2019s good to see my money, but I don\u2019t have much today. If you could just fix my radio for a small cost I\u2019d really appreciate it.<\/p>\n Billy<\/strong>: Sure thing. Who\u2019s this little cutie sitting right next to you?<\/p>\n Mother<\/strong>: Oh, this is my daughter, Destiny. Don\u2019t just stare sweetie, say hi!<\/p>\n Destiny<\/strong>: Hi\u2026<\/p>\n Billy<\/strong>: Hi Destiny. What a pretty name.<\/p>\n Destiny<\/strong>: Thanks\u2026<\/p>\n Billy<\/strong>: Well I\u2019ll be back. Let me just grab a few tools and see what I can do.<\/p>\n Narrator<\/strong>: Billy walks away to grab his tools from his office, while Destiny and her Mother step out of the car and wait for him to return.<\/p>\n Destiny<\/strong>: You know Mom, when you said that we were going to a mechanic named Billy I pictured a fat dude with his butt crack showing and a few missing teeth. What I got was a tall muscular man with a cute smile and a fresh beard. Even his sweat made him sexy.<\/p>\n Mother<\/strong>: There\u2019s nothing sexy about a man who reeks of sweat and oil.<\/p>\n Destiny<\/strong>: I beg to differ\u2026<\/p>\n Mother<\/strong>: Out of all the boys to have your first crush on, you have it with Billy the mechanic? There\u2019s a reason why his wife left him sweetie. Plus you are way too young for him. The moment you start developing will probably be the moment he needs to wear diapers again.<\/p>\n Destiny<\/strong>: Shh! Play it cool! He\u2019s coming back!<\/p>\n Narrator<\/strong>: Billy comes back with his tools in hand and begins to try and fix the radio.<\/p>\n Mother<\/strong>: Hey Billy where\u2019s the restroom?<\/p>\n Billy<\/strong>: The first door on the right of my office.<\/p>\n Mother<\/strong>: Okay, thanks. You coming, sweetie?<\/p>\n Destiny<\/strong>: I\u2019m good Mom. I\u2019ll just wait here.<\/p>\n Mother<\/strong>: Okay, but stay where I can see you.<\/p>\n Destiny<\/strong>: Mom\u2026<\/p>\n Narrator<\/strong>: Destiny\u2019s mother heads to the bathroom, while Destiny calmly watches Billy as he fixes the radio.<\/p>\n Destiny<\/strong>: So Billy\u2026 you have a really nice name.<\/p>\n Billy<\/strong>: Thanks. My Dad really loved money and wanted to name me money, but my mom thought that was stupid and two hours of arguing later they settled with, Billy.<\/p>\n Destiny<\/strong>: That story is fascinating, just like you.<\/p>\n Billy<\/strong>: Aw you\u2019re a sweet kid. How old did you say you are?<\/p>\n Destiny<\/strong>: (coughs) four-teen\u2026 but many say that I\u2019m really mature for my age. Plus age is just a number.<\/p>\n Billy<\/strong>: You look really hot.<\/p>\n Destiny<\/strong>: Why thank you!<\/p>\n Billy<\/strong>: I\u2019ve never seen anyone sweat that much before. Are you alright?<\/p>\n Destiny<\/strong>: Oh\u2026yeah. Thanks for pointing that out. I\u2019m okay it\u2019s just really hot today. Maybe you should take off your shirt and make yourself even cooler.<\/p>\n Billy<\/strong>: I\u2019m used to the heat, thanks.<\/p>\n Destiny<\/strong>: Well maybe you can fix my car in the future as well.<\/p>\n Billy<\/strong>: Hopefully you won\u2019t need me to fix your car in the future.<\/p>\n Destiny<\/strong>: You could at least teach me how to drive a dick- I mean stick shift car!<\/p>\n Billy<\/strong>: Right now let me just fix your mom\u2019s car for you, okay?<\/p>\n Destiny<\/strong>: Okay\u2026<\/p>\n Narrator<\/strong>: Destiny\u2019s mother comes back from the bathroom and approaches Billy.<\/p>\n Mother<\/strong>: So Billy, How much do you think this will cost me?<\/p>\n Billy<\/strong>: About two hundred dollars or as I like to say two hundred\u2026 Billies.<\/p>\n Destiny<\/strong>: Haha. You\u2019re hilarious Billy!<\/p>\n Mother<\/strong>: TWO HUNDRED just to fix the radio?!! What a rip off and don\u2019t amuse him sweetie! You literally just used a screw driver to remove what looked like dust.<\/p>\n Billy<\/strong>: Madame, your radio is pretty much brand new now that I fixed it. Look, I\u2019ll bring it down to \u2026one- fifty. How does that sound?<\/p>\n Mother<\/strong>: Sounds like I need to find a new mechanic.<\/p>\n Destiny<\/strong>: Mom, please just help him out. He was busy fixing someone else\u2019s broken car, yet immediately stopped and took time out of his day to help us. Please\u2026<\/p>\n Mother<\/strong>: You\u2019re lucky I\u2019m in a good mood today. Here, bring me change.<\/p>\n Billy<\/strong>: Okay, I\u2019ll be right back.<\/p>\n Narrator<\/strong>: Billy heads to his office to get change, while Destiny and her Mother wait in the car.<\/p>\n Destiny<\/strong>: Mom, is it aright if I give him some of my left over birthday money as a tip?<\/p>\n Mother<\/strong>: Sweetie, believe me he\u2019s not worth it. You had your fun, but it\u2019s time to move on from your silly Billy fantasy. Plus you\u2019ll make me look bad by using your money to give him a tip.<\/p>\n Destiny<\/strong>: I\u2019ll just give him a little and I\u2019ll say it\u2019s your money.<\/p>\n Mother<\/strong>: Just be quick then.<\/p>\n Narrator<\/strong>: Destiny heads towards Billy\u2019s office to give him the money. Suddenly, she realizes that he is talking on the phone and waits for him to finish.<\/p>\n Billy<\/strong>: I\u2019m telling you man this kid was all over me. She would not take the hint that I am not interested. I mean if I\u2019m gonna fuck a minor it might as well be a cute one right? The bitch looked like a damn walrus that was covered in sweat. I\u2019m just being nice so that her mom will pay me well. Anyways I gotta go give back their change. Maybe I can convince her that I should keep it. Wish me luck man.<\/p>\n Narrator<\/strong>:\u00a0 Destiny rushes back to the car before Billy could see her.<\/p>\n Mother<\/strong>: You give him the money?<\/p>\n Destiny<\/strong>: Uh Yup\u2026 but you\u2019re right mom two hundred just to fix a radio is way too much. Plus he\u2019s not worth the money. Let\u2019s go to a more reliable and less sexy mechanic next time.<\/p>\n Narrator<\/strong>: Billy comes back to car with their change.<\/p>\n Billy<\/strong>: Here you go Madame. Unless of course you care to spare a few-<\/p>\n Narrator<\/strong>: Destiny snatches the change before he has time to finish his sentence.<\/p>\n Destiny<\/strong>: That will be all Billy. Your greed is as strong as your stench of sweat. Maybe you should trying fixing it. Let\u2019s go back home Mom.<\/p>\n\n
