Grandpa is a sculptor. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

His tan, rough hands\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mold, twist, and coax\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The soft, formless dough,\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Creating perfect pleats\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Until the dough transforms\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Into an intricate crescent moon.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He adds his latest creation<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To the tray of dumplings.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Plump from meaty filling,\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

They stand tall and strong, <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sculpted by hands<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With decades of wisdom.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWei,\u00a0<\/span>ni<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>yie<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>zhuo<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>yi<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>ge.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

His words are indecipherable to me,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A jumbled mixture of sounds.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He places dough in my chubby hands,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Motions<\/span> for me to add filling.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWillow, try making one.\u201d<\/span><\/i>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I clumsily mimic his movements,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Bend, squeeze, and pinch the dough,\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But it becomes a lumpy\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Misshapen mess.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Grandpa looks at my dumpling\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And laughs.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Hearty, booming chuckles fill the room.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He guides my hands,\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Remodeling the dough\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Until gradually\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It takes shape.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He drops the dumplings into the boiling water.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

They emerge,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Hot steam curling in the air, <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And we voraciously feast,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Savoring the tangy filling\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That tastes of unspoken words<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Pressed deeply into the dough<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
