{"id":762,"date":"2020-03-31T02:45:26","date_gmt":"2020-03-31T02:45:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.rutgers.edu\/writers-house-review\/?page_id=762"},"modified":"2020-08-23T16:38:35","modified_gmt":"2020-08-23T16:38:35","slug":"just-moments","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.rutgers.edu\/writers-house-review\/whr-volume-1\/just-moments\/","title":{"rendered":"Just Moments"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><em>By Rifke Anolik\u00a0<\/em><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There are passing moments<\/p>\n<p>The low hanging ceiling in my father\u2019s tomato jalopy<\/p>\n<p>My mother calling the name she\u2019d given me&#8211;the one I\u2019d never connected to&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Through a Macy\u2019s store<\/p>\n<p>Loud enough to fill me with disdain for her<\/p>\n<p>My sister<\/p>\n<p>Sending a coded note on the pulley system<\/p>\n<p>Designed for the hours after bedtime<\/p>\n<p>But these are just moments<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The deep red guitar, Jade, who sits<\/p>\n<p>Patient in the bedroom corner<\/p>\n<p>Banners and tickets along my once reflective cosmetic mirror<\/p>\n<p>Playlists that date back to our first year<\/p>\n<p>In high school<\/p>\n<p>But these are just moments<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The long drives through New England forests<\/p>\n<p>To see you<\/p>\n<p>The first time you saw me with disapproval for following their footsteps<\/p>\n<p>For lighting candles Friday night<\/p>\n<p>But these are just moments<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When I blacked out behind the wheel<\/p>\n<p>80 miles per hour down the Garden State<\/p>\n<p>Pretended it wasn\u2019t your fault<\/p>\n<p>When the water called to us<\/p>\n<p>Like sirens<\/p>\n<p>And we left nothing to come between<\/p>\n<p>When we would track gas prices<\/p>\n<p>Before we were old enough to reach the pedal<\/p>\n<p>But these are just moments<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Rifke&#8217;s Bio: <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I am currently a student in the Nutritional Sciences Department. I grew up in Massachusetts but moved with my family to Highland Park (just over the bridge from New Brunswick) when I was in elementary school.
