Long-COVID, also known as post-acute COVID-19 or chronic COVID-19, is when someone has symptoms that last a long time after having COVID-19. These symptoms can happen during or after the main sickness and last for about 12 weeks. Doctors can’t always find another reason for these symptoms. We’re not sure yet if long-COVID is a new problem only related to COVID-19 or if it’s similar to other illnesses people recover from. It’s hard for doctors to know when these symptoms will get better because it’s different for each person. How well someone recovers depends on things like their age, other health problems they have, and how bad their COVID-19 was. Some symptoms, like feeling tired, might last even when other symptoms go away. This review talks about why these symptoms happen, how they show up, how bad they can be, and how to help manage them.
