Our newly graduated Dr. Penny Yeung and second-year cohort member Chen Xing escaped from the New Jersey cold to participate in the 2025 International Sinology Seminar, Intellectual Journeys in Modern and Contemporary Humanities (近現代人文知識行旅), held in December 2025 at National Taiwan University in warm Taipei. Organized by the Department of Chinese Literature at NTU, the program brought together leading scholars in the field for an intensive exploration of Sinology.
The seminar featured lectures spanning pre-modern Chinese classics to contemporary literary works, as well as thematic engagements with borderland studies and Indigenous studies. Participants also engaged in in-depth discussions every day with sinologists from around the world. In addition to learning from scholars, the program included on-site visits that offered insight into the intellectual and creative environments of major writers, along with access to archival resources at the Taiwan Studies Research Center.
Through this academically rigorous program, they deepened their understanding of classical Chinese texts, intellectual history, and diverse methodological approaches, further strengthening the foundation for their future research in Sinology.
