Courtenay Cavanaugh, Ph.D., is a Professor of Psychology at Rutgers University in Camden, New Jersey. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology after completing her internship at Bellevue Hospital/New York University. Dr. Cavanaugh completed two NIH-funded, postdoctoral fellowships at Yale and Johns Hopkins Universities. Her research focuses on the impact of violence on women’s health including risk for psychiatric disorders, substance abuse, suicide, and HIV/STIs.
She seeks to 1) inform, adapt, & implement interventions to improve the health of women affected by interpersonal violence, 2) improve trauma-related intervention implementation, dissemination, & sustainability, & 3) advance diversity and equity in psychological science. She has received the Rutgers Camden Chancellor’s Awards for Community Engaged Scholarship (2017), Teaching Excellence (2022), and Extraordinary Service & Leadership to Diversity, Equity, and inclusion (2022) in addition to the Rutgers University Warren Susman Award for Excellence in Teaching (2026).
