Rebecca studied genetics and visual art with a concentration in photography at the Mason Gross School of Art at Rutgers University, earning a B.F.A. She combined these interests during her doctoral work looking at stress-induced morphology of the IL2 neurons in C. elegans and completed her Ph.D. at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. She is interested in how the neuron responds to overwhelming stress and what implications this has for neuronal health and aging.
