About the CPL

The Cardiorespiratory Physiology Laboratory (CPL) is located at the Department of Veterans Affairs Airborne Hazards and Burn Pits Center of Excellence (AHBPCE) located at the VA New Jersey Health Care System (East Orange, NJ). The AHBPCE conducts clinical and translational research, provides advanced clinical cardiopulmonary services, creates and disseminates high quality educational material, and monitors the enterprise clinical response of a national exposure registry.

Our research laboratory’s goal, as part of the AHBPCE, is to study mechanisms of dyspnea, exercise intolerance, and fatigue in the contexts of environmental and occupational exposure.

We also occasionally study non-Veterans or civilians at our laboratory at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. Here, we focus on developing improved methods for assessing pulmonary function across multiple modalities.
