Summer 2026 Cohort
The Summer 2026 cohort took place at Rutgers University-Newark and visited community gardens and farms in Newark and Montclair. Video subjects focused on technology used at the farms, culturally preferred vegetables, personal motivations, and community outreach.
Kosi, Aari, and Adan created "The Compost Effect," a story focusing on the important process of composting, one of the most essential technologies that keeps the Greater Newark Conservancy running. The story features conservancy senior education program manager Patrick Evans.
Yargine, Nikhil, and Ester visited Montclair Community Farms and put together "From A Seed To Those In Need." Their story shows the legacy of culture, amaranth as a culturally preferred vegetable, and the wide reach Montclair Community Farms has in the community. Farmers Sergio, Dominic, and Violet are featured alongside Rutgers University-New Brunswick plant scientist Tori Rosen.
Angela, Reed, and Mikael worked over the course of the week to create "Roots In The Community," a film documenting the Greater Newark Conservancy's efforts in community outreach, and providing culturally preferred foods to the community. The story features conservancy workers Patrick, Emmanuel, and Chazak and the work of Rutgers University-New Brunswick plant scientist Tori Rosen.
Angella, Aadi, Tyler, and Alexander were inspired to tell the story of farm manager Sergio Campos after visiting Montclair Community Farms in "I Am Sergio." The film follows as Sergio gives students a tour of farm and they inquire about the technology used on this unique, small-scale farm. Farm worker Alison is also featured.
