In the early years of living in the United States, my mother faced significant hardships as she tried to secure the job she aspired to while raising her two young daughters at very different stages of life—a teenager nearing the end of high school and a hyperactive toddler. During this time, there was little to no room for rest.
Babysitting allowed her to make ends meet, but it was never her long-term goal. She wanted more for herself and her family. Over time, she worked toward citizenship and enrolled in nursing school, dedicating countless hours to studying while working up to three jobs to support her household and pursue her ambitions.
When she finally graduated and earned her nursing degree, it marked a turning point. For the first time, some of the weight she had carried for years began to lift. She transitioned from simply working to survive to working toward stability and comfort. It was during this moment of achievement that she purchased this watch.
The watch symbolizes more than a milestone—it represents the rewards of her perseverance and the possibilities that lie ahead. It reflects her identity as tireless, driven, and determined. More than just an endpoint, it stands as a reminder that her journey is ongoing, with aspirations that continue to grow, including her pursuit of a doctoral degree.
