Joseph Dziuba

With the pandemic serving as the inflection point in his transition from novice to educator in the middle of his career, the roles and responsibilities Coach Dziuba has sustained or taken on are more holistic by design. Pre-pandemic, Coach Dziuba served as the head coach of the freshman boys’ soccer team at New Brunswick High School, whereas he’s just wrapped up his fifth season at the helm of the Varsity program. Additionally, during his transition from a class advisor to the Student Council advisor, he has prioritized providing a means for student expression and fostering a sense of community across the entire student body by empowering underclassmen to sustain and elevate the traditions his school community has established. In partnership with the Graduate School of Education at Rutgers University, Mr. Dziuba serves as a Teacher Leader of Color for the Diversifying the Teaching Profession project, which aims to diversify the recruitment, hiring, and retention of faculty and staff.

Beyond New Brunswick Public Schools, Mr. Dziuba remains a lead organizer for #EdCampNJ, a yearly unconference designed specifically for educators who want to take the lead in their own professional learning, development, and community, as well as a Desmos fellow. Since 2021, he has spent his evenings as an adjunct faculty member in the School of Communication and Information at Rutgers University, where he teaches courses on data science and digital leadership. This experience has allowed him to engage in discourse with people from various backgrounds about how technology has created or exacerbated inequity in our society and the adjustments humanity can make to ensure equitable access and opportunity, regardless of one’s demographic identifiers. His most recent endeavor lands him in the mathematics department at Rutgers University, successfully piloting and establishing the Rutgers University Math Corps, a 5-week summer program designed to empower and inspire children from under-served communities – through the teaching of mathematics and the fostering of self-worth, strong values and a sense of family – to build good lives for themselves and a more just society for all.
