The Rutgers University Mingus Big Band, directed by Abraham Burton—a member of the acclaimed New York City Mingus Big Band—will pay tribute to the music of bassist and composer Charles Mingus, featuring compositions from his renowned collection that uniquely blend elements of bebop, gospel, and blues.
The Rutgers University Jazz Ensemble I, under the direction of Conrad Herwig, will present "Que Viva Coltrane," a tribute to the legendary jazz saxophonist and composer John "Trane" Coltrane. This premier student jazz orchestra will showcase some of Coltrane's best-known compositions and arrangements, featuring many talented students from the program's elite "Super Sax Ensemble."
