Tissue Engineered Human Skin Equivalent Polyderm Model

Polyderm™ is a second generation of tissue engineered skin equivalents developed in the LDD and has been created in order to produce HSEs with higher mechanical strength. For Polyderm™, an electrospun polymeric scaffold containing natural occurring extra-cellular material e.g. collagen-I is inserted into the dermis and full thickness HSE is developed using primary human derived skin cells. From initial screening studies, the model has shown improved mechanical and permeation properties over the collagen based HSEs.
