Abstract: Our group works on the synthesis of a water soluble octamine hemicarcerand. Our goal is create a water soluble hemicarcerand for possible waste water treatment or drug delivery. This can possibly be done through the addition of four styrene tails to the cavitands of the capsule, to have the styrene groups go through an inverse electron demand diels alder reaction with a PEG-tetrazine compound. This addition of the peg-tetrazine compound is what we believe to be the key to the capsule’s water solubility.
