Neuroendovascular Surgery Fellowship Program

The Rutgers Neuroendovascular Surgery Fellowship Program is a two-year CAST certified Endovascular Surgical Neuroradiology Fellowship Program, which is designed to provide a comprehensive educational experience in all aspects of Neurointerventional care while promoting clinical research. Fellows are trained at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School campus at University Hospital in Newark and Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School campus in New Brunswick. The program is led by Dr. Priyank Khandelwal, assistant professor of neurosurgery, specializing in Interventional Neurology. Faculty at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School also include Dr. Amit Singla, assistant professor of neurosurgery, who is a dual-trained endovascular and cerebrovascular neurosurgeon.

The Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson faculty consists of Dr. Gaurav Gupta, associate professor of neurosurgery, who specializes in cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgery along with, Dr. Sudipta Roychowdhury, a joint faculty member and associate professor of radiology, neurosurgery, and neurology, who specializes in interventional neuroradiology, Dr. Hai Sun, associate professor of neurosurgery and assistant director of research, specializes in endovascular neurosurgery, and Dr. Emad Nourollah-Zadeh who specializes in interventional neurology.

Fellows work closely with faculty and residents in an excellent learning environment to produce world-class well-trained Neuro-interventional Surgeons. Fellows are exposed to a wide spectrum of diseases including novel treatment for cerebral aneurysm, AVM embolization, spinal malformation, tumor embolization, acute stroke, atherosclerotic diseases of the cervical and intracranial vessels.

Both centers are recognized as Comprehensive Stroke Center and level 1 trauma centers in the state of New Jersey. The combined vascular case volume of both the centers is close to 1200-1300 cases a year. This provides an opportunity for residents and fellows to be exposed to various cerebrovascular pathology but also to perform mentored clinical research in all venues of cerebrovascular disease at both campuses. Residents can be considered for an enfolded fellowship if they are interested.

The Neuroendovascular Surgery Fellowship Program at Rutgers continues to be a pioneer in this ever-expanding field. With multiple IRB protocols, combined research projects, pioneer prospective studies, and upcoming participation in multi-center randomized trials. The Rutgers Neuro-interventional program is the leading institution in the state of New Jersey and is at the country’s forefront of education and patient care.

  • Fellowship Verification Letter (for Neurology applicants: Stroke, Vascular Neurology or Critical Care Fellowship)
  • USMLE I, II, & III Scores

Interviews for the Neuroendovascular Surgery Fellowship Program occur in November/December of every year, and applicants are accepted a year in advance to accommodate other fellowship training.
