Ryan Khanna, MD

Robert Wood Johnson Medical School

Assistant Professor | Director of Spinal Oncology Research
Department of Neurosurgery | RWJMS

Dr. Ryan Khanna is a fellowship-trained neurosurgeon specializing in spinal oncology, minimally invasive spine surgery, and complex spinal deformity correction. He has completed his spinal deformity fellowship at Scripps Clinic in San Diego and has now joined Rutgers Health at Community Medical Center.

Dr. Khanna completed his neurosurgical residency at Rush University, where he gained extensive experience in adult and pediatric neurosurgery, as well as spine surgery. Following residency, he pursued a dedicated spinal oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center under the mentorship of Dr. Mark Bilsky. His training continued with a fellowship in minimally invasive and complex spinal deformity surgery at the San Diego Spine Foundation, where he trained with Drs. Gregory Mundis and Robert Eastlack.

In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Khanna has a strong background in clinical research, with over 30 published manuscripts focused on socioeconomic factors in neurosurgery. His commitment to healthcare policy led him to complete a socioeconomic fellowship through the Council of State Neurosurgical Societies (CSNS). He also holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, which has informed his interests in medical device innovation and healthcare business strategy. He has served as a medical advisor for multiple neurosurgical device startups, contributing to the development of novel technologies in spine surgery.

Dr. Khanna is eager to bring his expertise in complex spine surgery, research, and medical innovation to Rutgers Health
