Elaine Zundl is the Research Project Manager at the Shift Project at Harvard University’s Kennedy School. In addition to coordinating data collection for Shift’s survey of hourly service sector workers, she researches access to paid leave programs and unfair scheduling policies. Her research interests include understanding how women in the sciences can thrive in corporate and academic environments. Zundl authored two reports on workers’ schedules, Still Unstable: The Persistence of Schedule Uncertainty During the Pandemic and Always “On-Duty”: Women’s Schedules in New Jersey’s Retail, Food Service, and Logistics Industries. She frequently utilizes large data sets like the ACS, CPS, and IPEDS to analyze workforce patterns by race and gender. Zundl has an MA in Women’s and Gender Studies from Rutgers University and is currently pursuing a PhD in Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers’ Edward J. Bloustein School.
