Notice Nature is…
An activity to build curiosity, discovery, wonder and mindfulness
Learn methods to observe, draw, and connect with nature
Thirty minutes each week for three weeks
No previous art experience needed

Notice Nature is a project initiated by the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences and Mason Gross School of the Arts that uses nature journaling to (1) intentionally build community, (2) increase connections between individuals and the natural world, (3) use the arts to create a sense of self-confidence and well-being, and 4) create projects that enhance meaning and a sense of place.  Designed especially for Rutgers-New Brunswick students, Notice Nature will host weekly nature journaling sessions that bring participants together to observe nature closely on campus. Each Notice Nature session will be co-led by a scientist and an artist.

Notice Nature is open to all students (undergraduate and graduate) at Rutgers-New Brunswick. You will spend 30 minutes per week for three weeks engaging in nature journaling—observing, drawing, and writing in response to nature. You will learn to wonder, inquire, and engage all your senses, and you’ll also gain basic skills in drawing, capturing observations, and note-taking. You will take time to pause your busy schedules, take a break from social media, and create connections with other students and with the environment.

Spring sessions will begin in March 2024.
