Some resources to find Fresh Food on campus and in Newark and on urban farming and community gardening in Newark:
pantryRUN is the on-campus food pantry established to help students who are having difficulty affording or accessing enough nutritious food to stay focused on their studies and have an active lifestyle. pantryRUN welcomes all students (undergraduate, graduate, online) to visit the pantry as often as needed; up to once per week or a few times a semester.
pantryRUN is located in Paul Robeson Campus Center, room 226.
MEND is an interfaith network of over 20 member food pantries and community partners located throughout Essex County, NJ. Our hunger relief network, the largest in Essex County, has been providing food to individuals and families in need since 1980.
MEND is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that strengthens and supports its food pantry network by providing supplemental fresh and healthy food, funds, volunteers, and a monthly forum for collaboration. MEND also advocates for policies to improve the quality of life for those in need in the County.
Member pantries benefit from MEND’s economies of scale and support, while retaining their independence.
SNAP provides benefits to eligible low-income individuals and families via an Electronic Benefits Transfer card. This card can be used like a debit card to purchase eligible food in authorized retail food stores. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is the largest federal nutrition assistance program.
Urban Agriculture Cooperative and Urban Agriculture Cooperative Market
Our mission is to enhance a localized food system for historically underserved growers and consumers needing healthy food access. Based in Newark, NJ, we are the “connective tissue” in our local food economy: planning operating food hubs, farmers markets, online ordering, creating new urban farms, and other special food system programs.

Newark Science and Sustainability
Founded in 2013, Newark Science and Sustainability, Inc. (Newark SAS) is a community-driven, 501c3 nonprofit organization based in Newark, NJ that creates generational sustainability through the implementation of educational programs, agricultural training, and community green development initiatives to ensure eco-conscious communities and healthy food access locally and globally.
Greater Newark Conservancy fosters collaboration in our community at the intersection of environmental, food, and racial justice to promote the health and well being of Newark residents. Our programs work to reverse the long history of systemic racism to improve social determinants of health by expanding access to green spaces, nutritious food, wellness education, and youth development.
