Volunteering in the lab or participating as an undergraduate is a fantastic way to gain experience relevant to careers in psychology, research, and counseling. We are eager to hear from anyone who is excited about the type of work that we do, is detail-oriented, diligent, and is able to commit to the following:

Duties of Undergraduate and Volunteer Research Assistants

• Data entry and data management tasks
• Running study protocols
• Contributing to lab meetings
• Planing and participating in lab events
• Community and social media outreach
• Recruiting study participants
• Completing, discussing, and presenting on scientific reading
• And much more!

Expectations:

• Currently enrolled at Rutgers University
• Interest in/enthusiasm for contributing to psychological research
• Two semester/6 month commitment to working in the lab
• Attendance at lab meetings and gatherings
• 8 hours/week of participation in research activities (including lab meetings)
• Commitment to professionalism in the lab and with study participants

Students interested in completing a thesis or independent project with the lab are required to be in the lab for at least 1 semester prior to completing the project.

The lab is a good fit for a student who is interested in conducting research on eating disorders and related symptoms and who wants to pursue a career in clinical science with a focus on research. We generally recommend that applicants have significant prior research experience before applying to the lab, oftentimes in the form of prior experience as a research coordinator or post-baccalaureate lab manager. The ideal applicant has had experience with data management and analysis and is interested in honing their skills in statistical methods and coding, as well as prior experience with scientific writing.

We are seeking motivated students to join our team as staff post-baccalaureate research coordinators. This position is ideal for someone who is interested in exploring research-focused careers, such as a Ph.D. in psychology, neuroscience, or a healthcare-focused degree.

Job Duties (including, but not limited to):

• Coordinate participant recruitment, screening, enrollment, and study visits, including administering questionnaires and study procedures
• Obtain informed consent and maintain rapport with participants throughout their involvement
• Manage study databases, including data entry, cleaning, analysis, and data use agreements
• Handle regulatory and administrative tasks (e.g., IRB submissions and renewals, protocol adherence, compliance documentation)
• Develop and refine research protocols and data collection instruments
• Contribute to grant applications and related administrative tasks
• Oversee and train volunteers, undergraduates, and other lab personnel, coordinating closely with Dr. Reilly
• Schedule and administer lab meetings

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
• 1+ year of research experience with human subjects
• Experience with clinical populations, including adolescents
• Prior training in statistical methods and data management (e.g., SPSS, R, Python)
• Project management and leadership experience
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Detail-oriented, organized, and able to problem-solve independently
• Collaborative, interpersonal strengths
• Able to commit to the position for 1+ year
