The South Asian Memory, Aging, and Risk Tracking for brain Health study (SAMARTH)
This study seeks to recruit individuals with ethnic or racial backgrounds from the South Asian subcontinents, aged 45-70, who have a risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias.
Study participants will complete a series of assessments for factors that have been linked to AD. These include study visits every two years, involving surveys, cognitive assessments, language assessments, motor function tasks, blood tests, physical and neurological exams, and brain imaging. We will compensate you for your time.
Who can enroll?
Individuals who :

have a South Asian ancestry (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Maldives)

are aged 45–70 years
-
have English language fluency
-
are not diagnosed Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia
-
do not have any conditions significantly affecting cognition, or end-stage disease / short life expectancy
What happens in the study?

3 visits, above 7-8 hours total
-
Visit 1: medical history, blood draw, cognitive testing

Visit 2 (remote): questionnaires and surveys about lifestyle, activity, personality

Visit 3: Brain MRI and other brain measures, and a walking fitness task

Dietary recall, use of a phone app, and an actigraph (watch that measures activity)
