What Is Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI)?

SPAR is committed to uplifting the voices of Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) communities, as well as other marginalized groups in the scientific and science policy communities. We will use this space to share resources and information about specific advocacy efforts from advocates and allies fighting for increased representation from marginalized groups.

Inspiring the next generation of scientists from diverse backgrounds motivates our semi-annual involvement in programs for elementary school students, more information on this initiative coming soon.

#ShutdownSTEM is an initiative from a multi-identity, intersectional coalition of STEM professionals and academics taking action and striking for Black lives. The STEM and Academic strike occurred on June 10th, 2020, and the organizers’ website has many resources for anyone wanting to learn more about how to fight anti-Black racism in STEM, academia, and society as a whole.
